We have had a VERY eventful week which resulted in our tiny home getting even tinier (well, it feels tinier anyway) and some very unforeseen circumstances. Honestly, there’s so much to tell that I’m not sure where to start. So… I guess I’ll start with the “& More” and then wrap it up with “A Few of My Favorite Things”.
First of all… Where in the world are we? I’m starting to feel more and more like a full-timer as more often than I care to admit, I will literally stop right in the middle of whatever I am doing feeling totally stupefied and think “wait… where are we? Although we are leaving here tomorrow, we are and have been in Alabama for a full two weeks now and we are staying in… you guessed it… yet another state park. This one is called Wind Creek State Park and it is located in the historic town of Alexander City, which is about 40 miles north of Auburn. First, here are some pictures from inside the state park. Remember, if you click/tap on a picture, they will get larger for better viewing. 😉

Sometimes I like to have my morning quiet time outside. What an inspiring view of God’s creation.
Looking up at our home and current campsite from afar.
This entire state park is a bird and wildlife sanctuary. There are tons of trails throughout.
There is also a beach area right in the campground which our new arrival, more on that later, is especially fond of.
Do you see that in the tree? It’s a red-headed woodpecker!
Bird watching has become a favorite pastime for all of us. Here is Elijah checking out the woodpecker.
Elijah and I have taken to riding in the back of the truck to explore the campground. (Greg drives!).
Trust me, this is a really fun way to see all the other rigs in all their variety (from huge Class A motor homes to tiny tents!) Who needs a golf cart?!?!
We have never previously spent any time in Alabama. Although it still looks very much like the south (SC/NC/GA) it has lots of farmland on gently rolling hills. It has a distinct country look and small town feel which we love. Here are some pictures from around this area in general:
It’ hard to see it, but Lake Martin Dam is just beyond the bend in the water to the right. I love all the big rocks.
See what I mean by country?!?! I love barns.
I love churches too! This chapel is right off the water and there is a windmill behind it. It’s in a place called “Children’s Harbor” which is a ministry for sick children and their families.
And we all know how much I love horses! Here in the field grazing is a beautiful paint and a bay.
This was some type of a garden area. This picture simply doesn’t do it justice.
We went to the top of a hill on “Overlook Drive” and found this beautiful vista and trail.
Here is Moses not quite fitting into the parallel parking space in historic Alexander City.
We happened upon a little outdoor concert in the middle green space of Alexander City. We love this musical metal artwork.
Coffee break! This little coffee shop (I can’t remember the name of it) was very rustic and full of character. They were playing Christian music too… LOVE!
Last weekend we wandered down an old dirt road to find the most beautiful picnic spot imaginable. We pulled off and truly felt as though we were the only people on the planet. Looking one way we had a hilltop view of Lake Martin and looking the other was an expansive view of the beautiful rolling hills. It was a moment to remember.
Having a picnic in the back of the truck.
Check out our view of Lake Martin
Looking the other way there are beautiful rolling hills.
Now to even more of the more… Last Sunday I ended up driving 5+ hours from Alabama back to Greenville to pick up my oldest granddaughter, Saylor. Her mom is a single parent and is struggling right now financially and in other ways. We all three (Greg, Elijah and I) felt the Lord clearly telling us (nope, He didn’t ask – he told) to offer to take her for the summer. We just finished up with Elijah’s homeschool for the year so the timing couldn’t have been better. We knew this would give our daughter an opportunity to get back on her feet and to save some money since she won’t have to pay for day care or any care of her daughter for the summer. So… I drove down on Sunday and drove all the way back with my granddaughter on Monday.
Talk about an unexpected turn of events! Now we have FOUR people living in 410 square feet. Apparently God has bigger plans for us than being able to relax this summer. LOL We can clearly see how He had set everything up to make this doable for the summer. He provided us with the perfect rig for her to live with us without Elijah having to give up any of his space or room as the loft is plenty big enough to serve as her room and she LOVES it!
So, although we are all in need of prayer as this is not going to be an easy task, we know it’s a worthy one and one that God has made clear we are to do. Here are some pictures of this past week with Saylor:
Riding in the back of the truck. No worries – we are only inside the park and she’s sitting in my lap.
She looks happy, doesn’t she!?!? You can’t see them from this prospective, but there are horses in the park. That’s the reason for the BIG smile!
Remember the beach I told you about. A five year old and any beach is always a good combination.
Helping Meme (me) make breakfast pizzas this morning.
Her room for the summer.
I put up curtains and she loves to keep them closed. It’s like a tent/fort for her.
FINALLY, for a few of my favorite things. Here are just a few of the things that make this lifestyle not only doable, but AWESOME!
This is by far my absolute favorite MUST HAVE item when living in an RV. An ice maker! I LOVE my ice, and since this little guy keeps me supplied 24/7, I LOVE my ice maker!
See what cute little ice cubes it makes? This is one batch. As long as I keep it emptied out, it keeps making ice. It will make a batch this size in just a couple of hours. PERFECTION
This is my food storage bin. We have not only a big basement storage area, but also I have this large food storage area for my excess. As you can see this is where I keep my Ice Maker and my Kitchenaide, but look up on the inside of the door. That map is where we are tracking our travels. We will keep it updated with the states that we have traveled in our new home.
This is the basement storage. Another of my favorite MUST HAVE things is the blower. Yep, you heard me right. Not only is this invaluable to blow off the tops of the slides before we bring them in (I can’t imagine not doing that!?!?!) but Greg uses it daily to blow off our patio rugs and keep our front patio area clean.
My Kitchenaid mixer! I can’t imagine life without it… so why even try. I keep it in my outside food storage area when I’m not using.
Two of my favorite things are in this picture. First, my iPad. I have 90% of my recipes in an app on my iPad so I use it all the time for many reasons, but especially for cooking! Also, see that little Kitchenaid food processor? Yep, it’s cute, it’s red, it’s small, and it does the job. Score!
#6 | Sadler’s Creek State Park in Lake Hartwell, South Carolina • Site #44 • 1½ weeks: 4/7-4/17/16
We brought and hung some items from our beloved sailboat, Genesis, and it helps me keep her memory alive. This is one that our oldest had gifted us.
Here is another nautical item that reminds us that we will be returning to sailing after our land adventures!
How’s that for an INCREDIBLY LONG blog post?!!? Prayers are appreciated for us all, my daughter (to be able to get back on her feet); my granddaughter (to have an awesome summer – and to turn into a calm, chill child. Lol); my hubby, Greg (who still has to work during all this! Thank God for his private office in the MBR); my son, Elijah, (who has happily and with zero complaints given up his free time, peace and quiet in exchange for lots of babysitting); and finally for me. With my health issues, just pray that I can handle the additional stress well (give it to Jesus!) without a health crisis. Also, pray for the energy it takes to care for a five year old 24/7. Energy is always something I am lacking the most of. All that said, we are all super excited to have her with us for the summer. Let the fun begin!

Everything is so organized & pretty!! I’m the same way about my grandchildren; the girls are pretty easy but Steven is kind of hard to watch 24/7!! I also have a problem with energy!! I take a vitamin & B-12 to stay energized. Keep having fun & be safe!! I love you all!!
Thanks, Kathy! ?
I made comments I guess in the wrong place as I don’t see them here. Do I hit reply and then write my comments. Very confusing.
I see your comment! It was in reply to my answer to another comment. Thanks for keeping up with us so well, Mom! ?
Great pics! Excited for Saylor and you all. I remember those many early morning moments especially, when I had to stop and ‘remember’ where I was lol. Praying for you all! Love, & prayers continuing of course. 😉
