Where in the world are we?

We have spent 3 months as “empty nesters” and we both (all three of us actually, if you include our all grown up now baby who flew the coop) are slowly but surely finding our new groove(s).

Where in the world are we? As I write, Greg and I are in the beautiful state of Wisconsin, thoroughly enjoying the Dells area. Prior to our arrival here, we had only been to the Door County area of Wisconsin for our 20th wedding anniversary getaway – which was over 15 years ago! (Yep – we’ve now been married for over 35 years!) So, even though this is not a totally brand new state for us, it IS a brand new area of a state that we only previously visited for a few days. And although this particular area is a bit too touristy for our taste, the natural aspects and topography are nothing short of breathtaking.

Life is starting to settle a bit into yet another new routine now that my days are no longer overtaken and focused on homeschooling Elijah. I still miss him. Although Greg misses Elijah as well, he has adjusted much faster than I have (having his own private office didn’t hurt I’m sure.) As for me, it’s taking a bit longer. Although I am still in the “adjustment” process, I can honestly say that I have made some significant progress in these past 3 months. I went from feeling in shock; to a bit dazed and confused; to simply lost. Thankfully each of those stages passed soon enough and I have recently found myself feeling an odd sense of freedom that I have honestly NEVER experienced in my entire adult life! Hmmmmm…. what’s next for me? Stay tuned as I am now in the planning stages of my personal “next chapter” and I am actually growing more and more excited as my vision continues to clarify.

Enough about me though, let’s talk about the fun stuff… our travels! As I mentioned in my last post, Greg and I have been majorly itching to get back out west! We have been in the eastern half of the United States (east of Texas) since the end of January of 2018!!! That is 1½ years! After spending much time with family and friends and making it a point to take plenty of time to make sure that Elijah feels settled and comfortable with us being far away (which he already is – “See ya, Mom & Dad!”), we have taken the next step and planned/reserved our next few months with the end goal of getting us back to my personal favorite state of Arizona for the winter and in time for me to fly back to SC for the upcoming birth of our grandson, Atlas. (And of course, to get in more visits with all of our SC and NC family.)

Where in the world have we been since my last post? After leaving South Carolina, we spent 6 weeks in North Carolina visiting family and sticking close enough to be able to go back and rescue Elijah if needed. After seeing how well he was doing (and no, he sure didn’t want to come back “home”), we headed even further north and spent some time in Kentucky and then in Illinois during which Greg drove up by himself to Michigan to get some good visits in with some of his family. We had some terrific friend visits as well.

Where in the world are we going? We are leaving this area soon to explore a little more of Wisconsin by heading to the western side of the state, near La Crosse (where we are also hoping to take a River Boat Cruise on the Mississippi River!) This will bring us close enough to the state border to also visit and explore both Minnesota and Iowa. After that, we are heading to South Dakota to spend a short time in Sioux Falls, before we land for 2 weeks in Rapid City. (Where we will visit both Mount Rushmore and we will pop over for a day trip to Wyoming to visit Devils Tower! (Remember the mashed potato mountain that turned out to be real in the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind?!? See my bonus picture below.) From South Dakota we are heading to the previously visited, but need more time in states of: Wyoming, Colorado, and then New Mexico before our winter landing in Arizona where we will spend some extended time (Woohoo!!!) for the holidays and to serve as a base for Greg during my flight back to the Carolinas. SO EXCITING!

Following are some random pictures that I wanted to share. After you check them out, be sure to do some clicking around on our Main/Home page. I have been working and tweaking quite a bit lately in an attempt to revamp and update our entire blog in general. I updated the content and added tons of current pictures in Our Rig and I updated our About Us page as well. I also added two brand new pages to our main menu: Videos and Sailing. (I am not totally finished with the Sailing page yet, but at least I started it!) Check it all out and then feel free to reward me for my efforts with a kind word… or two.
But first, some random pictures:

Happy Trails!!!

  1. Great post! As always, love the pics! Glad you are heading West as I know it is a better climate for your health. That said, it is awesome that you both spent so much time with family (& friends) before you headed out of the Carolinas (& Greg’s trip to family in MI also) before ‘heading West’. So glad you & Greg are continuing to much enjoy your travels as still newly empty nesters. Praying always for safe and enjoyable travels and continuing wondrous discoveries along the way. Love you!
