The Beauty of Myrtle Beach State Park

While I sit here attending to our four loads in the laundry room machines; I wanted to share with you some of the gorgeous pictures we (mostly Greg) took here at Myrtle Beach State Park.

Pulling into this gorgeous park. All the blacktop throughout the park was just resurfaced a couple of weeks ago. Perfect timing for our visit!

While attempting to climb into this chair for a picture, I slid back and bashed my head. When will I ever learn that I am no longer a spring chicken?!?!

The beach is within easy walking distance from our campsite. The pier that you see in the background comes out from where the day park visitors park and enter beach. This park consists of almost 300 acres of God’s handiwork.  Oh, and Popeye says “Ruff!”

Trying to get some of the “hyper” out of this crazy pup!

There are tons of trails and we came across this swampy area while hiking one of them. So cool!

Elevation – 1 foot!

We have already determined that South Carolina has some absolutely beautiful state parks and that we are the type to prefer the natural beauty and wide open spaces and more privacy of state parks (and I’m sure federal parks as well) compared  to other campgrounds. Even the resort style ones like the Thousand Trails one that we recently stayed at in NC.  While we liked that campground quite a bit, I doubt we will be joining Thousand Trails anytime soon.  The state parks are more our style.  In my humble opinion, you simply can’t compare God’s creation to man’s.  We have already booked our next campsite at yet another SC state park!  I will post more about that later, but here’s a hint ?.

Meanwhile, we are stoked to be here for a full two weeks. (All SC state parks have a maximum camping stay limit of two weeks). We are truly enjoying every minute of it and I seem to be pinching myself daily.  Being that we are still working, homeschooling, and all that jazz, (we are not here on vacation!) staying a full two weeks gives us plenty of time to experience it all over the course of our stay, without feeling pressure of having to see/do it all in only a few days.

We are just a couple days shy of completing our first month of full-timing and this lifestyle seems to be an absolute perfect fit for all three of us. I have no words to describe how thankful I am that we didn’t give in to the fears and uncertainties along the way.  Change, especially such a huge change as this, is scary and often intimidating.  There’s nothing worse than the fear of the unknown.  But, everything takes sacrifice and nothing worth having comes easily.  And for us, this is SO worth having!

Now to finish my laundry! It's folding time...

Happy Trails and Sunny Sails!

  1. We always preferred the state/national parks as well

    So much more rewarding

WiFi might not be available but I don’t know

  2. Wow, that looks like an amazing state park! We are going full time soon and have been researching fifth wheels as well and would also like to stick to state parks, boondocking, etc. My hesitation on getting a 40 footer is the limitation it presents in getting into state parks. What has your experience been so far on finding spots that will accommodate your size rig? Any advice so far from the road?

    1. Our 5er is 41 ft. And so far it hasn’t been a big issue at all. That was a concern for us at the onset (when deciding which to buy) as well. We decided that a foot or two wouldn’t make a big enough difference in available campsites to make it worth us not having the living space we need/want. We can be flexible with where we stay, so we decided having the right rig was the most important factor for us. There have been some state parks that we could not find an available spot big enough for us, so we just went elsewhere. That said we have had NO regrets getting our 41 footer. Being full-timers, it’s way more important to us to have the living space to accommodate our needs.
